Fast Food- it’s everywhere! We are so on the run and spend so much time in our cars it almost seems we have to eat fast food. Have you ever really paid attention to what you are eating….I mean really paid attention?
I’m going to suggest a way you can break the habit and it is a habit. If you do desire to stop the fast food habit try first to be conscious of what you are actually doing. Not to worry this won’t take weeks just a visit or two and you will get the picture so it’s worth the discomfort I am about to suggest.
- Drive up to your favorite gulp it down spot and get out of the car, do not use the drive- thru
- Notice the surroundings as you enter the 5 senses fully engaged here, be sure to look closely at the people ordering
- Place your order from the menu not your memory, notice the choices and the sizes offered and what you are choosing
- If you can sit in the seating area with your meal, if you cannot bring yourself to do this at least sit in your car without driving do not drive and eat
- Be present with this meal this bag of food you paid for and are fueling your body withfor the day
- Smell it, look closely at it, feel it, taste each and every bite.
- Take your time this is the most important part, eat this meal Mindfully one bite at a time, savoring the flavors and textures
- When you have finished look at the packing and wrappers and be mindful of what you just ate
- Notice how you feel and what your car smells like if you dined alauto
- return to this blog and tell us of your experience with the fast food
- Repeat as necessary
Reminding ourselves where and what we eat is a choice not something mandated simply because there is a drive-thru on every corner and this is a powerful way to take back the freedom to live our lives consciously.
Bon Appetite !
